Definition of UL2468 Cable

UL is the safety specification mark, and UL is a large intermediary in the USA specializing in safety certification. And 2468 is a type of UL 758 cable.

UL2468 cable is a standard flat ribbon cable with dual UL and CUL safety certification, also known as FRC cable. It is a well-known PVC insulated flat ribbon cable that falls under the UL and CUL cables category. Insulated with PVC (polyvinyl chloride), rated at 80°C and 300V, passes UL VW-1&CUL FT1 or FT2 flame test. Using tinned, bare, stranded, or solid copper as conductors, the product is flexible, acid-resistant, oil-resistant, moisture-resistant, and mold resistant. The uniform thickness of the cable insulation ensures easy stripping and cutting. Environmentally tested to RoHS certification.

Conductor of UL2468 Cable

UL2468 cables are available with different types of conductors. They are usually classified into three types: AS, TS, and TC.

AS = Annealed Stranded, without plating.

TS = Tinned Stranded, where all copper cables are tinned before being stranded.

TC = Top Coated, where all copper cables are first stranded together before being tinned.

Conductor sizes are available from 32AWG to 16AWG, and pin counts from 2P to 150P. Insulation colors will be determined on request. The most common are black and grey.

What are the differences between UL2468 and UL2464

  • The voltage rating is the same, and both are 300V.
  • The temperature rating is the same. Both are rated at 80 degrees Celsius.
  • UL2464 cable is insulated and sheathed (round cable), whereas UL2468 cable is a flat ribbon construction, mostly insulated.
